music video outlets

Social Media are online sites such as Facebook and Twitter where people go to show what they are doing and express how they feel. Artists will use these social networking sites to advertise their music. By using these types of sites, would be an easier and quicker way to get it noticed. The artists fans would be able to view the music within minutes and share it within seconds. Being able to re post and share to friends in matters of seconds means that it would go viral within a few weeks or even days. This will then get the music video noticed worldwide. The positive impact on the artist is that their music would go worldwide within days and they would become a sudden interest to the audience. This is also a way of free advertisement. The bad thing is that the audience may not like the music or they wont re post so they wont get noticed. The record label will also have free advertisement. If the artist tells a song from the company, they will get a profit out of the income. The bad thing is that there may not be as many sales as predicted so they may lose money instead of gaining. Social media would be able to take into consideration the artists music video. It will then be able to use the video of their own advertisement or promote the video for a fee. The only thing is, the video may not be as good as suspected so it will just be a regular comment on the site. The audience would be able to watch the video as much as they want for free. Not everyone would be able to have access to social media so therefore they wont be able to see the video.

Mainstream TV are programs that show pre recorded footage on the BBC, ITV, SKY1 and many more. They all promote the music video through the footage over time. Although they promote the footage, it may be delayed a while before they actually promote it. This is because they will have to find out about it which would take a while as it has to get through social media first. This would be good for the artist as they are being promoted in a bigger way other than social media. It will be shown constantly on repeats etc. and also be linked to know websites. It may be negative as it might be promoted in a negative way with negative feedback in which the artist wont have any good outcome from it all. The record label would gain good outcome from this as it will be promoting their business but if the artist has been exploited in a negative way, this will also reflect on the record label. If the audience see it through mainstream, this is a way to get them to watch it and then go and talk or share it to others. The only bad side about it is that they may not have access to mainstream tv and therefore wont be able to see it being advertised.

Music Channels such as MTV and Urban show music videos of specific genre. Some music channels only do one specific genre whereas others do a wider variety. There are videos constantly played throughout the day in which many people would view or if not even listen to. This will be good for the artist as their video would be played over and over again on many channels. The only down side about it, is that it may not reach the specific taste of some channels and therefore wont fit in and get low rating. The record label would be getting good feedback as they would be showing what they are enabled to be producing and then get a higher rate for other artists. The audience would be able to view the video over and over again which is good and show others but it might not be up to their satisfaction and might change the channel. They may also not have accessibility to view these programs to view the video.

Direct CD Releases such as the Michael Jackson CD are all pre recorded. These are sold out to people who have the interest in the artist. It includes the song and sometimes the music video. This is a popular way to sell out the artists music but not many people buy CD's anymore. The CD's provide a profit for the artist and the record label but it is now easier, quicker and sometimes cheaper to download the music video or just view it over the internet. This means that the CD ratings may not be as high as suspected. The audience would either buy the CD to listen at home on a surround system or to listen in a car but other than that they would have it downloaded as it is more up to date with todays technology. The audience also may not be able to buy the CD through cost reasons. Due to this they wouldn't buy it so the selling rate would be even lower.

Streaming Websites like Youtube and ITunes have constant access to the music videos. This enables anyone to view the music video at their own choice. Youtube and ITunes are different as Youtube have free access and ITunes you have to pay. This payment goes to the artist as well as the record label. These are good ways to view the video as the more views and purchases that are received, the recommendations for it rise. This will show the audience that it may be a popular video. If it is to be popular, it means that it is good. You are also able to comment and rate it so it will get better reviews. Although you can do this, sometimes there will be bad comments and ratings so it would be able to be recommended to others. This will just give it a lower viewing list on the websites. The record label would get advertisement and tell the viewers about the company which will bring them into good concepts when it comes to promoting another artist. They will also get a profit from any sales they make. The audience are able to judge the music video to how they want it to look like.

Artist's Websites such as Myspace is where the artist will be able to post their music videos. This is an easier way to self promote themselves without having to go into depth with social or direct etc. People are able to access these websites through the internet which means you can only do it if you have the access needed. The artist will have a cheap way to show themselves off to the audience but not many people would know about their website unless it was shown somewhere for people to find out about it. The record label would have a low stage of promotion as the amount of people viewing the website may be kept to a minimum.

Downloads from sites such as youtube converter already have the video set. All that is needed to be done is to download it onto your device in which you want it. These can sometimes be legal of illegal. This can be a good thing for the artist as people are able to download their music for free meaning they will get noticed but the majority of the time it is being done illegaly which means they wont get any benefit apart from being noticed. The record label have the same benefits and negative impacts as the artist. The audience however, are able to download the music for free but there might not be access for them to be able to download it.
